Buster could have made an excellent pet. Buster could have cuddled with the kids at night. Buster could have protected a home - a family - a life.
We say "could have" because Buster never got the chance. Buster was left to rot and die in a kennel.
Buster was turned into Boxer Rescue LA in December of 2004. He was wandering the streets with another boxer assumed to be his son. Buster was around 8 - 10 years old, and Sprite, his son, was a year.
For a year the two boxers sat lonely and ignored in an outdoor kennel run. They were fed, and volunteers gave what they could as far as love and attention - split between over 100 rescue dogs. They tried to find them a home, but no one was interested.
Boxers and Buddies noted Buster's senior years and didn't want him to die alone in a kennel. They brought Buster and Sprite up to Nevada and into a foster home.
Sprite was placed within a couple of months. Buster still waited. His situation had improved - he was a house dog now: warm, loved and well-fed - but still withouyt a family to call his own.
Another year passed and the year took it's toll on Buster, His back legs, always weak and wobbley, not refused to hold his weight and keep him balanced. He fell down a lot. His front legs, now stiff with arthritis couldn't bend enough to help him pull himself off the ground.
As winter approached Buster declined dramtically. He would be asleep and unable to get up to releive himself. This once proud and beautiful dog would be forced to lay in his own mess, miserable, dirty and unable to help himself.
Buster's quality of life was no longer acceptable. His eyes pleaded with you to help him, when there was nothing more you could do.
Buster. We love you. We'll see you at the rainbow bridge: happy, healthy, and barking at us once again. |
