Ouija died today. She fought a good fight. She lost. Her bad breeding and parentage won out in the end.

Ouija's intestines twisted, cauging her pain and vomiting. Due to her already weakened condition and previous dietary problems, the vet felt that it would be best to let her go.

Ouija, know that you were loved at least for a while. We wish you were here to take running in the mountains one last time.

I miss you.

Penny is now called Ouija - she is doing better, eating more and gaining weight. Her blood levels are still bad and we still aren't sure whats wrong with her.

Penny is a typical example of a dog purchased from a pet store. Pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills. (www.puppymills.com). They will tell you they don't. They will say they go to puppy brokers (aka people that get t heir puppies from puppy mills) or "local breeders" (aka: backyard breeders that are in it to make money) . How do we know this? Because no reputable breeder, one that cares about the pups they make, will give their dogs to anyone they haven't personally met and approved. When you have breeders that are mass producing dogs for money, and not caring about the health of the dog as long as they get the puppy out so a new litter c an come in - who cares if 50 out of 200 die? They still brought in the money. are about the conformation, looks, temperament or health. And thats how you get dogs like Penny.

Yes, she's very sweet. She was purchased from Lil Pups pet store in Carson City.

The dog was whelped 3/14/07. The dog was in the pet store by June 10 - and proceeded to sit in a cage for 3 more months.

The people realized something was wrong about a month after purchase. The puppy would eat, but never got any fatter. Then she wouldn't eat, and would get even skinnier. They contacted Lil Pups and were told that because the problem wasn't discovered within the first 10 days of purchase, they wouldn't do anything.

The pup kept losing weight and the owner "couldn't afford vet bills" (which is interesting as they COULD afford to spend $400 on a puppy) so the dog was given to us.

These photos are of Penny when we picked her up. She weighed 30 lbs.

To date, we have spent more than her purchase price on trying to figure out what is wrong with her. She seems to be gaining weight but so far her blood work and other tests have been inconclusive.

These puppy mills and pet stores have NO interest in healthy dogs - as long as they get a check.

Don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die!
